David Schneuer’s works capture the essence of Europe between the world wars, preserving the spirit of German Expressionism. Born in Poland in 1905, he studied in Munich before moving to Paris, where the artistic influences of the expressionist movement shaped his career. Returning to Munich in 1928, he worked as a stage designer and poster artist, creating evocative imagery infused with sharp eroticism and refined colors. Arrested in 1933 and imprisoned in Dachau as a cultural revolutionary, he later immigrated to Tel Aviv, where he continued his artistic endeavors through murals, trademarks, and posters. His stylized figures—reminiscent of Toulouse-Lautrec’s voyeuristic depictions—portray the vibrant bar and café scenes of 1920s Munich and Paris, showcasing an intimate and sensuous world of curvaceous women, bustling streets, and lively social interactions.
