Commis: RootsTable Restaurant

Opening in June 2026, RootsTable is dedicated to creating memorable dining experiences that celebrate craftsmanship, seasonality, and connection. Located within the Ferleman Gallery, our kitchen brings art and cuisine together through refined farm-to-table cooking that honors local ingredients and creative expression.


This part-time kitchen role is ideal for someone eager to grow their culinary skills in a creative, fast-paced environment—someone who values precision, teamwork, and hospitality while contributing to an elevated, modern dining experience.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist with Daily Kitchen Operations: Support the Chef and Sous Chef with prep, station organization, and smooth service execution across the kitchen.
  • Prepare Ingredients and Mise en Place: Wash, chop, portion, and organize ingredients while maintaining consistency, freshness, and cleanliness.
  • Execute Dishes to Standard: Prepare and plate dishes according to recipes and presentation guidelines, ensuring every plate reflects RootsTable’s commitment to quality and detail.
  • Maintain Cleanliness and Organization: Keep workstations clean, stocked, and organized throughout service while following food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Support Seasonal Menu Preparation: Assist with recipe preparation, tastings, and seasonal menu changes while learning new techniques and culinary practices.
  • Work Collaboratively with the Team: Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service and a positive work environment.
  • Follow Health and Safety Standards: Adhere to all food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

  • Curious and Creative: Interested in seasonal ingredients, modern cooking techniques, and the artistry behind exceptional dining experiences.
  • Professional and Positive: Brings a respectful attitude, adaptability, and strong work ethic to every shift.


Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of kitchen or food service experience preferred
  • Basic knife skills and understanding of fundamental cooking techniques
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior kitchen staff
  • ServSafe certification or equivalent preferred
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
