Director of Communications

Ferleman Gallery is dedicated to showcasing contemporary art and creating meaningful experiences for visitors in the creative arts. We are looking for team players who are others-focused and attentive to the visitor experience, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed, informed, and engaged.

This part-time role is ideal for someone who appreciates art, values clear and compelling storytelling, and enjoys connecting people with the creative work happening across our gallery community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Communications Strategy: Develop and uphold a consistent voice and message across all channels, ensuring that Ferleman Gallery’s mission, programs, and identity are communicated with clarity and creativity.
  • Edit & Produce Print Magazine: Serve as editor for the gallery’s print publication, coordinating with contributors, refining voice and layout direction, and ensuring timely production.
  • Manage Digital Newsletter: Write, edit, and distribute the gallery’s digital newsletter, highlighting exhibitions, events, artist features, community programs, and gallery updates.
  • Oversee Social Media: Create and schedule posts for social media platforms, cultivate audience engagement, and track the effectiveness of digital outreach.
  • Support Marketing & Promotions: Collaborate with leadership to develop marketing assets, promotional campaigns, event materials, and messaging for exhibitions, concerts, and special initiatives.
  • Coordinate Contributor Content: Work with artists, writers, photographers, and staff to gather stories, images, and updates, ensuring content is accurate, polished, and aligned with gallery standards.
  • Uphold Brand Identity: Maintain consistency in tone, visual presentation, and messaging across all printed and digital materials.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear writer and thoughtful editor with the ability to shape compelling narratives across multiple platforms.
  • Story-Driven and Visitor-Focused: Creates content that helps audiences feel connected, informed, and welcomed into the Ferleman Gallery experience.
  • Proactive and Forward-Leaning: Takes initiative, anticipates needs, and brings creative solutions to communication challenges.
  • Attention to Detail: Highly organized, deadline-driven, and capable of managing multiple projects at once.
  • Curious and Innovative: Open to new ideas and eager to explore efficient, creative approaches to content creation and marketing.
  • Flexibility: Comfortable working in a gallery environment with shifting priorities, including occasional evening or weekend events.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:
Candidates should have professional experience in communications, writing, editing, or marketing. A background in the arts is beneficial but not required. Transferable skills from journalism, publishing, public relations, or digital media are valued. A bachelor’s degree in communications, art, art history, English, marketing, or a related field is preferred.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud—particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop—is required, along with working knowledge of Canva; experience with print production and preparing files for press is a strong plus.
