Part-Time Gallery Assistants — Ferleman Gallery

Ferleman Gallery maintains museum-level standards of care, presentation, and professionalism. We operate in a discreet, highly detail-driven environment where artwork handling, exhibition execution, and visitor engagement are approached with precision and respect. Every aspect of the gallery—from installation to daily front-of-house presence—reflects a commitment to contemporary practice at the highest level.

This role requires a high level of trust, judgment, and attention to detail in the care and presentation of significant contemporary works.

We are seeking Gallery Assistants who bring a polished presence, strong organizational skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for contemporary art. This role is ideal for someone who values clear communication, takes initiative, and understands that the gallery environment thrives on precision, collaboration, and thoughtful engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front-of-House and Visitor Engagement: Serve as a welcoming first point of contact for guests, collectors, artists, and community members. Provide informed, professional responses to questions about exhibitions, programming, and gallery policies, and help create a composed and memorable visitor experience.
  • Exhibition Support & Artwork Handling: Assist with the careful installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, ensuring proper handling, placement, and presentation of artworks in alignment with professional standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain an organized and visually precise gallery environment. Assist with inventory tracking, documentation, record keeping, and occasional point-of-sale or administrative tasks.
  • Event & Program Support: Support openings, artist talks, concerts, and special programs by helping prepare spaces, coordinate logistics, and ensure smooth execution.
  • Communications & Promotions: Assist with exhibition promotion through social media content, visitor communications, and coordination with internal marketing efforts.
  • Professional Representation: Interact with stakeholders with discretion, professionalism, and an awareness of how daily execution reflects on the gallery’s reputation and mission.

What We’re Looking For

  • Professionalism & Poise: Comfortable engaging with the public in a calm, polished, and articulate manner.
  • Detail and Standards Orientation: Able to maintain visual order, handle sensitive materials responsibly, and execute tasks with consistency and care.
  • Discretion and Good Judgment: Understands the importance of confidentiality, professionalism, and thoughtful communication in a gallery setting.
  • Proactive & Reliable: Anticipates needs, takes initiative, and contributes to a steady, solutions-focused culture.
  • Flexible & Event-Ready: Available for high-traffic days, weekend programming, and special event support.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a professional environment is preferred; experience in galleries, museums, exhibitions, or arts organizations is a strong plus
  • Background or coursework in art, art history, arts administration, communications, or related fields is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with discretion and care
